Abstract. This article examines the wedding ceremonies of the city of Samarkand, customs and traditions inherent in local families, as well as the features of wedding ceremonies of Tajiks living in this region. The author analyzes both unique features and elements similar to the traditions of other peoples. Particular attention is paid to the role of these ceremonies in strengthening family and social ties, as well as preserving the cultural heritage of the region. After receiving the consent of the bride, the main events begin, which are divided into several stages, each of which has its own name: oshkhurakon (eating pilaf), nonshikanon (breaking flatbread), fotia (engagement), sambusa (pre-wedding celebration in the groom’s house), nikoh (marriage ceremony), tuy (wedding), talbon (post-wedding invitation), chillagurezon (treat on the occasion of the end of forty days after the wedding). These events are characterized by unique rituals and traditions, which reflect the richness of the cultural heritage and the significance of marriage in society. All these rites and rituals are an important part of the national heritage and play a major role in passing on traditions to future generations, in strengthening the social structure. But at present, disagreements often arise between the younger and older generations regarding the large time and financial costs of holding wedding celebrations, since from two months to two years can pass from the first event to the wedding itself, depending on the agreement of the families.
The article is based on many years of personal observations and research by the author.
