Abstract. In the article, the author examines the role of «green» parties in the political system of various countries, especially in Europe. She describes the emergence of the first environmental parties in the late 1970s and their development, including representation in national parliaments, local legislatures and governing coalitions. There have also been attempts to create a green party in Russia. At the moment, two political parties are registered and operating in the country, positioning themselves as «green» or environmental. The work studies the phenomenon of «green» parties in the context of their program documents, ideological guidelines and tools for interaction with the electorate. The author notes the features of environmental parties in Russia in comparison with Western Europe, associated with electoral cycles and internal political processes. Russian environmental parties are focused on changes in environmental legislation and environmental issues. They have similar views on the optimal political structure of the state and the protection of human rights in favorable environmental conditions. Both parties strive for a constructive dialogue with the state and do not pretend to be a political opposition.
