Abstract. This article examines the main aspects and current manifestations of social inequality in the Russian Federation. Social inequality is one of the most pressing challenges facing any modern society. Based on statistical data (the Gini coefficient), as well as research in economics, sociology, and social policy, this article examines such forms of inequality as income and wealth differentiation, regional asymmetry, and unequal access to quality education and healthcare. It is emphasized that social inequality in modern Russia is a multidimensional and systemic problem. It manifests itself not only in high income differentiation (as captured by the Gini coefficient), but also in profound regional disparities, as well as in unequal access to basic social benefits-quality education and healthcare. It is emphasized that these forms of inequality are interconnected and mutually reinforcing, thereby creating a «poverty trap» for a significant portion of the population. The author devotes special attention to analyzing the consequences of socioeconomic inequality, including demographic problems and social tensions. It is concluded that the problem is complex and requires balanced public policy measures to mitigate it. The answer to the question of whether it is possible to build a society without social inequality remains open, but minimizing its destructive consequences is a prerequisite for ensuring sustainable development and social harmony in Russia.
