Abstract. The article «Methods and principles of conducting social work» is a brief but sufficient question for understanding and debate. Today, social work is a very important profession that is necessary for the successful development of modern Russian society. Social work is in demand, in connection with which the author generalizes the current state of the chosen object of study, clarifies the categories of the conceptual apparatus, describes both new and already established views on the subject under study. The knowledge gained as a result of studying the theory of social work can be used to solve real problems that arise in the daily life of both one person and various social groups and the whole society. The purpose of social work is to help people who find themselves in a difficult life situation and need social services. The researcher’s personal position regarding the phenomenon under study is expressed, scientific tasks are formulated for further disclosure of the raised research topic. As scientific knowledge, social work is a theory that studies the ways of adaptation and rehabilitation of one individual or group. There is no uniformity in the classification of social work methods. Many methods are interdisciplinary. From the point of view of science and the theory of social work, there are: general methods, general scientific methods and private methods. From the point of view of practical social work — economic, legal, social, political, etc. The conclusions drawn and the proposals formulated in the work will help to compare the picture of the object of study under study in the future, which will help the author to further define the tasks and develop tools for conducting quantitative and qualitative empirical research.
