Abstract. The problem of extremism has its own history and is becoming increasingly relevant in the modern world. Social inequality, religious contradictions, an unstable political situation in many countries, conflicts at the international level, as well as the active development of information technology lead to the fact that extremist ideas and views are reflected on the Internet. At the same time, extremist views can spread not only between ideologically close people, but also be transmitted to teenagers whose life experience is not yet great enough, and whose psychological formation is not final.

In preparing the work, historical literature, regulatory legal acts containing the concept of «extremist activity (extremism)», the interpretation of this term in dictionaries, and publications of Russian scientists on this topic were studied. It is concluded that the dissemination of extremist views through digital resources can lead to serious consequences, such as conflicts between different groups of people, violence, and terrorist attacks. Many teenagers can be easily convinced that extremist ideas are acceptable because they do not yet have enough life experience and knowledge to critically evaluate information. Therefore, it is necessary to pay special attention to the prevention of manifestations of extremism on the Internet, to work with young people, to explain to them the danger of such ideas and to give them the opportunity to realize their political activity in the legal field.

The results of the study can be used in developing measures to increase the effectiveness of the fight against the spread of ideas of political extremism among young people.
