Abstract. The article «The current stage of development of the territorial economic unit of the Far East» is a brief but sufficient question for understanding and debate. The current policy of the Russian government distinguishes regions depending on their geopolitical or economic significance and is aimed at stimulating self-sufficiency and independence from European suppliers and goods. As for the Far East, this subject of the country is considered to be a pivotal one in many respects, which determines the need for a comprehensive analysis of the development processes of this territorial unit. The author summarizes the current state of the chosen object of study, clarifies the categories of the conceptual apparatus, describes both new and already established views on the subject under study. The special interest of the sovereign in the Far Eastern Federal District determines the relevance of considering the topic of managing the region in modern conditions. The purpose of the work is to consider the development of the Far East region as an economic unit in modern conditions. Considering the features of the current political situation, it is necessary to take into account indicators of economic growth or decline in trade and economic agreements with various countries, therefore the key method of work is the analysis of statistical data. This article will consider the key aspects of state policy that determine the development of the region, as well as the prospects for its further well-being. An analysis of the work of domestic and foreign researchers who see military and political significance in the region is also presented. In conclusion, a proposal was put forward to optimize the socio-economic level of the region, as well as to attract specialists from different fields to the region to solve the key demographic problem.
