The prevalence of digital technologies is familiar for our time. They were conceived as one of the means of improving creative human activity. However, it is precisely these resources that those forces that form destructive subcultures and extremist ideologies have begun to use. The most vulnerable in this regard are children and youth, that is, those who are less inclined to critically evaluate the information that becomes available to them through social networks. The article presents the results of an empirical study \u00abParents&#8217; perception of threats of involving children and adolescents in destructive subcultures and extremist ideologies on the Internet\u00bb (N = 441). The study was conducted by specialists of the regional resource center for monitoring and prevention of negative social phenomena in children and youth in the Stavropol Territory (a structural unit of the Stavropol State Pedagogical Institute) with representatives of the parent community as part of the regional events \u00abParent Lounge\u00bb. The study showed that the main problem in determining the priority mechanisms of preventive action is to fix the key attitudes of parents: they are aware of the potential of a threat (52,3 %); they understand the need for trusting relationships with children (61,4 %); they realize the lack of necessary digital competencies (only 20,5 % know the signs of involvement). The study records a request from parents for practical formats for teaching digital literacy and the activities of destructive communities (40,9 %).
