Abstract. The issues raised in the scientific article «Extremism in Modern Discourse» are relevant and represent a rather important issue that is regularly discussed. The article considers extremism as an important phenomenon in modern society. Historical data are analyzed, extremism is considered as a phenomenon and as a term. The article reveals the origin and origins of extremism. An attempt was made to generalize the current state of this phenomenon, the types of extremism are considered and examples from practice are given. Attention is focused on the current state of development of this phenomenon. The topics of terrorist groups and methods of recruitment are touched upon, as well as the impact of digitalization on extremist activities. The author focuses on the fact that extremism as a phenomenon has changed over time and acquired a more extensive character due to the emergence of activities at the international level to replace the regional one. The author draws attention to the problem of youth recruitment into terrorist organizations, and also considers the reasons why this category of people is a more affected risk group. The subject of the influence of information technology on extremist activity due to open access in information networks is touched upon, and the problem of control in the information space is also revealed. In conclusion, the author notes that extremism as a phenomenon has a long history and affects all spheres of society (social, political, cultural). This is a process that will never be completely eliminated and that tends to rise and fall again. However, at the moment, measures are being taken to reduce this activity to the minimum possible in modern realities.
