Abstract. Any person who is engaged in scientific detail, in one form or another, shows his personal qualities in this. Therefore, it is very important to pay tribute to their hard creative work. This year marks the ninetieth anniversary of the birth of Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Law, Professor Viktor Ivanovich Ignatenko. A man whose pedagogical and scientific work has allowed us to give a «start» to an entire scientific field in Russian criminology and sociology. Having started his career as a school teacher, Viktor Ivanovich was able to «grow up» into a world-class scientist. The special scientific category formulated by him — «antisocial lifestyle of minors» became the starting point for the scientific school, which rightfully bears his name. This man was a unique person in every sense. Suffice it to say that there are not many scientists in Russian criminology and sociology who were able to «base» their scientific publications on real scientific research. The results of which would be the result of many years of practical work with such a specific scientific «object», which are difficult teenagers. Professor V.I. Ignatenko not only generalized empirical data, he was a direct participant in the educational and pedagogical process, thereby completely «immersing» himself in the problem. How many such names can we name among the «venerable» scientists? Moreover, working with such a specific contingent of offenders, Viktor Ivanovich did not lose faith in humanity, kindness and justice. He was able to convey this attitude towards offenders to his students and followers.
